Description

Rare 1856 Dollar, AU55

1856 $1 AU55 PCGS. The 1856 dollar, from a mintage of 63,500 business strikes, is rare in all grades, as most were exported to China or Europe (David Bowers, 1993). Light champagne-gold patina resides on this Choice AU example. The design elements display better definition than usually seen on this typically weak issue, except for softness in the hair at Liberty's head and the feathers on the right (left facing) leg. A few light marks are inconsequential.
