Description

Brilliant 1859-O Seated Dollar, MS63

1859-O $1 MS63 PCGS. Prior to the Treasury releases of the early 1960s, the 1859-O was a scarce, yet not rare coin in Mint State. By 1964, however, multiple 1,000-coin bags of Mint State 1859-O and 1860-O Seated dollars emerged from Treasury Department vaults and found their way into the hands of the public. These coins were uniformly frosty in texture with mostly untoned surfaces and enough scattered bagmarks to net grades in the MS60-62 range. This example fits the bill with a nice strike, full mint frost, lightly abraded surfaces and a completely brilliant appearance. Population: 42 in 63, 16 finer (8/08).
