    Description

    1859-S Dollar, AU50
    A Low-Mintage Issue

1859-S $1 AU50 NGC. The first San Francisco silver dollar issue had a low mintage of 20,000 pieces, most of which went to the Orient. Surviving examples are mostly in the VF to AU grade range. The few Mint State specimens are primarily in the lower levels. The gray surfaces of this AU example display hints of light reddish-tan, along with traces of luster in the recessed areas. Both sides show nicely defined motifs and reveal no significant marks.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 24YZ, PCGS# 6948)
