Description

Desirable MS61 1859-S Dollar, Ex: Richmond Collection

1859-S $1 MS61 NGC. Ex: Richmond Collection. This initial San Francisco silver dollar issue consisted of just 20,000 business strikes, a tiny total that had little impact on the California coinage situation; those pieces swiftly disappeared into circulation, and today, Mint State survivors are rarities. This crisply detailed example shows strong, mildly reflective luster beneath subtle golden shadings. Well-defined with a number of minor digs and wispy marks in the fields, but surprisingly few overt abrasions, considering the grade. Census: 5 in 61, 11 finer (9/08).
Ex: Richmond Collection (David Lawrence, 11/2004), lot 1483.
