Description

1859-S Seated Dollar, MS63
OC-1, Repunched Date, Top 30

1859-S $1 OC-1, R.2, MS63 PCGS. A Top 30 Variety. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/b. The 18 in the date is clearly repunched at its base. The 1859-S is the only San Francisco silver dollar issue struck prior to 1870. As the sole S-mint No Motto issue, it is requisite for completion of a West Coast type set. At PCGS, the median grade for the 1859-S is between VF35 and XF40. Mint State examples are decidedly rare, and the MS63 level is surpassed by only two coins each at NGC (MS64 and MS65) and PCGS (MS64+ and MS65). This satiny representative exhibits a solid strike, and is minimally toned save for a few rose-red dollops near the final A in AMERICA. Marks are few for the designated grade. PCGS Population: 8 in 63 (1 in 63+), 1 finer (12/25).(Registry values: N7079)
