Description

1860 Seated Dollar, MS64
Elusive Business-Strike Example

1860 $1 MS64 PCGS. CAC. The 1860 Seated dollar was produced in rather significant quantities (more than 217,000 pieces), but these were primarily intended for use in trade with the Orient, and few survived to satisfy American collector demand. This near-Gem representative displays the lovely semiprooflike fields that are a hallmark of unimpaired 1860 dollars, with sharply struck devices, and well-preserved surfaces. Richly blended orange-gold, lavender, and sea-green hues emanate from beneath a thin veil of gunmetal-gray toning on each side, delivering an attractive visual display when tilted beneath a light. Population: 26 in 64, 6 finer (5/14).
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2003), lot 7529.
