Sharp and Elusive 1861 Seated Dollar, MS63
1861 $1 MS63 PCGS. A Select Mint State Seated Liberty dollar from the first year of the Civil War, which saw a small original mintage of 77,500 coins and subsequent melting of many pieces that same year. The issue is seldom seen in Mint State, nor even in the higher circulated grades. The present example has satiny luster over pinkish-golden surfaces on both sides. A few light abrasions account for the grade, but the sharp strike and excellent eye appeal are noteworthy.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24Z4, PCGS# 6951, GSID# 7210)
