Description

1861 OC-2 Silver Dollar, MS65
Conditionally Rare Civil War Date

1861 $1 MS65 PCGS. OC-2, High R.3. Osburn-Cushing Die State b/b, though with an apparent clash mark on the reverse field between the first and second vertical shield stripes. OC-2 is the sole 1861 variety struck from Reverse B, identified by a delicate crack through the base of the OL in DOL. Any Seated dollar issue is rare in Gem Mint State, but the 1861 has a business mintage of just 77,500 pieces. The smooth, lustrous surfaces are well struck, and show wisps of wheat-gold patina. Glimpses of deeper brown toning emerge above the E in AMERICA and between the uppermost arrowheads. Population: 6 in 65 (2 in 65+), 1 finer (9/24).(Registry values: N7079)
