1862 Dollar, Sharply Struck and Appealing MS64

1862 $1 MS64 NGC. The Seated dollars of 1862, from a paltry mintage of 11,540 pieces, are scarce in circulated grades and rare in mint condition. Near-Gems such as the present offering are infrequently seen and finer grades are virtually unobtainable. Lustrous surfaces display hints of light tan color and exhibit sharply struck design elements. Even the hair atop Liberty's head, often weak, is sharp on this coin. A few marks on Liberty's chin and neck, and what may be an unobtrusive vertical indent on the upper-left reverse shield, are only mentioned as possible identification markers. This piece shows great technical quality and aesthetic appeal. Census: 22 in 64 (2 in 64 ), 2 finer (4/14).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24Z5, PCGS# 6952)
