1866 Motto Seated Dollar, MS64+
Beautifully Toned, Close to Gem

1866 $1 Motto MS64+ PCGS. This lovely toned 1866 Motto Seated dollar, a first-year type, is oh-so-close to the Gem category, where the issue shows a major price jump: The online PCGS Price Guide shows MS64+ coins at $19,500, while MS65s are at $90,000. The opportunity here is obvious. The moderately deep patina on this coin ranges from the prevailing blue hues to lavender and a patch of orange in the obverse fields. A few light slide marks are noted on the thigh of Liberty. This piece is extremely well-struck, close to full save for a couple of star centrils, which added to the beautiful color makes this coin a keeper. Population: 17 in 64 (2 in 64+), 8 finer (11/12).(Registry values: N4719)
