Description

1867 Seated Dollar, Attractive MS64+
Sole Plus-Graded Example at This Level

1867 $1 MS64+ PCGS. OC-1, Repunched Large Over Small Date, R.2. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. A Top 30 Variety. The 1867 OC-1 is one of the most interesting varieties in the Seated dollar series. Close examination of the date reveals smaller underdigits visible on 186 --possibly from a quarter punch that was entered by mistake, then mostly effaced prior to entering the correct numeral size. Near-Gem surfaces display nearly entirely prooflike fields on this Choice Uncirculated example. Lightly toned in lustrous silver-gray shades, glimpses of pale-gold warm the surfaces and contrast with frost-white central devices. A few small marks are the only grade-limiting factor on this pleasing Plus-graded PCGS coin. PCGS Population: 13 in 64 (1 in 64+), 3 finer (3/26).(Registry values: N4719)
