Challenging MS62 1869 Seated Dollar

1869 $1 MS62 PCGS. The Seated dollars of 1869 are rare despite their relatively high mintage of 423,700 business strikes. The large coinage was apparently undertaken to provide coins for export to the Far East to fill the void left when the Mexican peso fell out of favor with Chinese merchants. This coin displays a thin layer of warm golden-brown patina overlying lustrous surfaces. The design features are well executed, illustrating just a touch of the usual weakness at the top of the eagle's right wing. The obverse displays scattered unimportant marks, but the overall eye appeal is pleasing. Housed in an old green label holder. Population: 11 in 62, 23 finer (5/10).
