Description

1870-CC OC-8 Seated Dollar, MS63
Only One Finer at PCGS

1870-CC $1 MS63 PCGS. OC-8, High R.4. This is an early die state of OC-8 that does not showing reverse rotation that defines the Top 30 variety when in later die states. Many collectors consider the 1870-CC Seated Liberty dollar the ultimate Carson City collectible issue. These pieces were the first coins of any denomination produced at the Nevada facility. Mintage totaled 12,462 coins from four obverse dies and six reverse dies that were combined to produce nine die varieties, according to the Osburn-Cushing reference. Rusty Goe estimates that two dozen examples survive in Mint State grades, including nine or ten pieces that grade MS63 or finer. This Select Mint State piece is richly toned in dark gray-brown with hints of pale blue toning. Population: 7 in 63, 1 finer (11/21).
