Description

1871 Seated Dollar, MS64
Distinctive Obverse Toning

1871 $1 MS64 PCGS. The 1871 is among the more often seen With Motto Seated dollars, popular among type collectors. This Choice example is finer than the majority of Mint State survivors and represents the highest grade in which this issue can be termed affordable. The obverse is distinctively toned, showing a crescent of midnight-blue along the right margin that ripples through a rainbow-colored ribbon just right of the center of the coin and fades to champagne-gold over the remainder. The reverse is light golden overall, and both sides are frosty and lustrous. Liberty's head is a trifle soft, but the remainder of the design elements show pleasing definition. Population: 43 in 64 (1 in 64+), 7 finer (9/15).(Registry values: N2998)
