Near-Gem 1872 Seated Liberty Dollar
Rare in MS64
1872 $1 MS64 PCGS. With a series-high mintage of 1.1 million
pieces, the 1872 Seated Liberty dollar was circulated heavily in
the 19th century, and Mint State coins are difficult to locate
today. Q. David Bowers states the 1872 is "very rare in MS-64 or
higher" grades. The present coin features sharply detailed devices
with steel-blue and gray toning over most of the surfaces, and some
darker spots at the rims. Traces of mint luster show through the
toning. Population: 25 in 64, 3 finer (6/10).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24ZJ, PCGS# 6968, GSID# 7221)
