Description

1873-CC Seated Liberty Dollar, AU50
Challenging Low-Mintage Key
Final Date of Design

1873-CC $1 AU50 PCGS. OC-1, High R.4. Osburn-Cushing Die State b/b. Regardless of grade, the 1873-CC is a key to both the Seated dollar series and to any Carson City set. Only 2,300 pieces were struck and some of those were melted in preparation for the Trade dollar series. Researchers estimate that only 750 to 1,000 examples out of the 2,300 1872-CC mintage actually left the Mint. Carson City authority Rusty Goe suggests only 85 to 100 pieces survive today in all grades, plus a number of impaired pieces that do not qualify for a numeric grade. Only about a third of the certifiable survivors exceed the VF level. This About Uncirculated coin is is lightly toned with considerable field reflectivity. The surfaces are lightly abraded and worn from time spent in Old West commerce, but no more than one might expect for a circulated Seated dollar from the Nevada branch mint. A single die pair struck the entire 1873-CC silver dollar mintage. PCGS Population: 8 in 50, 17 finer (7/25).(Registry values: N7079)
