Description

1873-CC Seated Dollar, AU53
Last of the CC Seated Dollars

1873-CC $1 AU53 PCGS. OC-1, High R.4. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/b. A single die pair accomplished the small, 2,600-piece 1873-CC mintage. The entire Carson City lineup of Seated dollars consists of only four dates: The 1870-CC, 1871-CC, 1872-CC, and 1873-CC. While the 1870-CC is the most available of those issues, the remaining dates are either rare or very rare, especially in Mint State conditions. PCGS and NGC combined show only eight Uncirculated 1873-CC Seated dollars, making About Uncirculated pieces the best grade most collectors can hope for to represent the date. This AU53 example displays shades of silver-gray patina ranging from medium-gray fields to light-gray design high points. Scattered light abrasions and small marks account for the assigned grade. Some luster remains on the lightly worn surfaces. Fewer than 25 pieces are certified within the AU53 to AU58 range by PCGS and NGC combined. PCGS Population: 3 in 53, 14 finer (4/25).(Registry values: N7079)
