1873-CC Seated Dollar, AU Details
Low-Mintage Final Carson City Issue

1873-CC $1 -- Tooled-Cleaned -- ANACS. AU Details, Net XF40. The year 1873 was the last for the Seated dollar coinage, one of the effects of the sweeping "Crime of '73," as it was known by its many detractors. The congressional action abolished the half dime, two cent, and three cent silver denominations, omitted the silver dollar from the list of authorized denominations, and introduced the overweight Trade dollar. The 1873-CC is the only mintmarked issue known from this final year of Seated dollar coinage, as none of the reported 700 examples struck of the 1873-S have ever turned up in numismatic circles. This example of the 1873-CC is more attractive than the caveats might sound, as the evidence is tooling is confined to subtle waviness in the fields, and the muted luster on silver-white surfaces confirms a past cleaning. Much detail remains on the devices throughout.
