Description
1871-CC Seated Dollar, Fine 12 Details.
Only 1,376 Coins Struck, Few Survive
1871-CC $1 -- Cleaned -- ANACS. Fine 12 Details. OC-1, High
R.4. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. Although the 1871-CC Seated
dollar has a lower mintage -- only 1,376 pieces were struck -- the
1871-CC and the 1873-CC are neck-and-neck in terms of survival. The
two dates each have valid claims to being the rarest Carson City
Seated dollar issue. The 1871-CC is generally accorded the title
with only a few Mint State examples known and the scarcity of
problem-free coins in lower grades. This piece displays bold
definition for the assigned Fine 12 Details grade. An old cleaning
results in a finely porous obverse while the reverse appears
unaffected. Medium-gray surfaces show few marks other than a short
mark from Liberty's left (facing) elbow. A misplaced 1 exists in
the dentils below the stem of 7.
