1854 Seated Dollar, AU Details

1854 $1 -- Repaired -- NGC Details. AU. OC-1, High R.3. All
33,140 business-strikes were manufactured using one set of dies.
Like the 1855 that would follow, about 300 1854 Seated dollars
survive. They are subject to ever-strong demand from collectors who
recognize this as one of the keys to the series. The noted repair
is extremely difficult to discern. Close inspection fails to reveal
any overt evidence of repair or tooling. Perhaps field marks above
the eagle's right (facing) wing were minimized by smoothing. It may
be that the fields on each side were subject to similar treatment,
but it is impossible to say with certainty. The devices are fully
struck, and splashes of blue color at the lower obverse accent
