    Description

    1855 Seated Dollar, XF Detail
    Semikey With 26,000 Coins Produced

1855 $1 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. XF. OC-1, High R.3. The only known dies. A mintage of 25,000 coins and a small survivorship of about 300 pieces ensures the 1855's status as a semikey date among Seated dollars. Examples are almost invariably softly struck, but this XF coin shows partial radials on the stars despite minor blending from circulation. Evidence of an old cleaning is apparent, and small bumps and ticks are noted around the obverse rim, but these issues are not overly detracting. This remains a pleasing and highly collectible example of a challenging date.
