    Semiprooflike and Richly Toned

    1864 $1 AU55 NGC. Probably less than 50 Uncirculated examples of the 1864 exist, making this Choice AU especially attractive. With the mintage so low at 30,700 pieces, many will show the initial die polish and subsequent semiprooflikeness, as seen here. This field brightness serves to backlight the rich cobalt-blue and rose toning that covers each side. Well struck, as usually seen on this date. Census: 9 in 55, 35 finer (7/16).
