    Description

Brilliant About Uncirculated 1873-CC Seated Dollar

1873-CC $1 AU50 PCGS. It is the sign of both a significant collection and an important auction when we can offer not only one, but two 1873-CC Seated Dollars. The first of two About Uncirculated specimens in the Silverman Collection, this coin is untoned with a bright sheen that is most readily perceptible in the fields. The surfaces are somewhat scuffy from handling, but no more than one should expect for a circulated Seated Dollar from the Nevada branch mint. The only useful pedigree markers are located on the obverse: a shallow planchet defect (as struck) on the rim after the date; a thin planchet streak (also as produced) in the upper right obverse field through Liberty's hand; and a small toning spot in the lower right obverse field above Liberty's foot.
Over the past 12 years, we have handled only three certified AU representatives of this rare CC-mint issue:

    1. Ex: 1999 FUN Signature Sale (Heritage, 1/99), lot 6949, where it realized $20,000. Certified AU50 by PCGS.

    2. Ex: Philadelphia 2000 Signature Sale (Heritage, 8/00), lot 6194, where it realized $31,625. Certified AU53 by PCGS, this is the coin being offered in the following lot.

    3. Ex: 1999 Central States Signature Sale--Waldo E. Bolen Collection of 1873-CC Coinage (Heritage, 4/99), lot 5922, where it realized $41,400. An AU58 NGC specimen. (NGC ID# 24ZN, PCGS# 6972)
