Description

1840-O H10C Drapery AU53 NGC. Half dime coinage at the New Orleans Mint in 1840 was divided between the No Drapery and With Drapery design types. The latter is scarcer today, especially in high grade. This rare AU53 example is well-struck and has just a brush of high-point wear. Lilac-gray and gold toning covers the satiny surfaces. Census: 1 in 53, 19 finer (4/18).
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2010), lot 3579, which realized $1,380.
