Premium Gem 1841-O Half Dime

1841-O H10C MS66 NGC. Medium O mintmark. Specialists who collect the Seated Liberty half dimes recognize certain dates as major rarities, and other dates as condition rarities. A member of the second group, the 1841-O is plentiful in circulated and lower Mint State grades, but extremely rare in Gem quality.
At least five different die varieties are known, with Small O and Medium O mintmarks. At one time, Will Neil published a Large O mintmark variety, but it is now believed that his description resulted from a measurement error.
Struck from worn dies that result in a grainy appearance, this lovely piece has ivory color, frosty surfaces, and brilliant luster. Most design elements are sharp, although the obverse and reverse borders fade into the fields. Census: 2 in 66, 1 finer (8/07).
