Description

1849/8 Half Dime, MS67
FS-301

1849/8 H10C V-1, FS-301, MS67 PCGS Gold Shield. CAC. The Cherrypicker's Guide reports two overdates, FS-301 and FS-302, and they describe both as 1849/8 overdates, while the Guide Book records them both as 1849/6. There are also at least two other repunched date varieties that are not overdates. This Superb Gem has an old-time collection look with light heather central areas and splashes of sky-blue along the borders. While it is not the Eliasberg specimen, it has the same appearance as many coins from that great collection.

The PCGS population report for 1849/8 half dimes records one grade MS68, one graded MS67+, and four graded MS67. However, examination of the images at PCGS Coin Facts reveals that the MS67+ is actually an example of FS-302, historically called the 1849/6. Population: 4 in 67, 1 finer (12/18).
