Underappreciated 1852-O Half Dime Rarity, MS 63 PCGS

1852-O H10C MS 63 PCGS. The year 1852 offers considerable challenges to the O-mint Seated collector. The '52-O half dime, dime, quarter, and half dollar are all low mintage issues that were heavily melted as a result of escalating silver prices. Writing in 1992, Al Blythe (The Complete Guide to Liberty Seated Half Dimes) assigns the 1852-O half dime an R.6 ranking in Mint State. A premium quality example for the grade, the surfaces are smooth and essentially distraction-free beneath blue-gray patina. This is a sharply struck, suitably lustrous example that would fit into any advanced half dime collection. (NGC ID# 233L, PCGS# 4350)
