Description

1853 Seated Half Dime, MS66
Scarce No Arrows Type, Few Are Finer

1853 H10C No Arrows MS66 NGC. CAC. Struck prior to a change in weight for silver coinage in 1853, many No Arrows half dimes may have been melted en masse since they were worth more than their face value as silver bullion. The silver-to-gold ratio was out of balance during the early 1850s. This Premium Gem No Arrows survivor is colorfully toned in shades of blue and pale-rose, with mint luster flashing across partially reflective fields. The strike is sharp throughout, and there are no individually significant marks to mention. Census: 10 in 66, 2 finer. CAC: 5 in 66, 2 finer (5/18).
