Description
Great Superb Gem 1854 Arrows Half Dime
1854 H10C Arrows MS67 NGC. In 1854, rays were removed from the reverses of the quarter and half dollar. They were already absent from the half dime and dime, which makes the Arrows design a three-year type for those two denominations. As is the case with the dime, Arrows mintages began at then-record levels in 1853, but dropped each year thereafter. The present semi-prooflike Superb Gem is essentially brilliant, although the obverse has a hint of gold toning. Sharply struck on the major devices, stars, and legends, although the dentils are generally soft. Virtually pristine save for minor contact above the A in HALF. Census: 3 in 67, 0 finer (3/09).
