Description
1855-O Arrows Half Dime, MS65
Advanced Die State
1855-O H10C Arrows MS65 PCGS. CAC. V-1a. A crescent of
russet frames the obverse of this Arrows half dime, with pleasing
gold and gray covering the remainder of this CAC-approved example.
The center reverse is brilliant, with streaks of silver penetrating
the burgundy legend.Variety: V-1a. Valentine gives only one die marriage for this issue, and the obverse cracks indicate the die state.
Population Data (8/15): PCGS shows nine in MS65 and three finer (the finest one MS67+). NGC enumerates 25 in MS65 and seven finer -- five MS66, none in MS67, and two MS68.
Heritage Commentary: The obverse die is in a near-terminal state, with a crack passing through the head of Liberty and the stars. Another crack connects the arrows and date, and a third runs from the right foot to the rim. The 1855-O survives in high grades in relative abundance for an O-mint half dime issue.
