Description

1857-O Half Dime, MS66
Possible Misplaced Digit

1857-O H10C MS66 NGC. Despite a mintage well into seven figures, this is a condition rarity as indicated by the population data. This example is a satiny Premium Gem with almost prooflike fields and excellent aesthetic appeal. It is sharply struck with virtually full-white brilliance. An unexplained characteristic: the obverse has a raised, nearly vertical die line in the base of the rock, directly below the left edge of the shield. To some it appears almost as if it is a misplaced 1, with the serif hidden below the curved drapery of Liberty. Census: 27 in 66, 4 finer (5/11).(Registry values: N2998)
