Description

1858 Half Dime, Glistening MS68
A High Condition Census Coin

1858 H10C MS68 ★ NGC. CAC. This is one of the greatest Stars Obverse, No Arrows type coins known to exist, being tied for the finest 1858 half dime reported at NGC and the only piece in this grade with a Star designation. Not only is this piece sharp and virtually flawless in its preservation, but the original mint luster glows on each side in a way that is almost unheard of on lower-grade pieces. Brilliant interiors gradually bleed to lavender borders, giving the surfaces a hint of warmth. At least two sets of clash marks are visible. We have previously handled only two different examples of this issue in MS68, one of which has appeared in our auctions four times. The present coin is a third example. Census: 4 in 68 (1 in 68 ), 0 finer. CAC: 4 in 68, 0 finer (2/18).(Registry values: N1)
