Description

1858 MS 65 PCGS. Breen-3090, Double Date. Although the holder does not specify this die variety, one cannot help but notice the obvious doubling of the digits of the date, first punched far too high, then corrected half its height lower. Breen states this is at least 10 times as rare than the better known 1858 over inverted date listed in the Redbook. This specimen exhibits gray-golden toning over both sides and is generally well struck except on the stars (as usual). A few clash marks in the fields are about the only surface distractions we note on this gem.
