Description

1859 Half Dime, MS67+
The Eliasberg-Gardner Coin

1859 H10C MS67+ PCGS. CAC. V-2. Ex: Eliasberg. The Mint used a new obverse hub for half dimes in 1859, designed by Mint assistant engraver Anthony Paquet, showing slight differences including hollow star centers, thinner arms, and a flatter base that extends just beyond the foot to the right. Gold, evergreen, and coffee shades weave through the stars and date of this high-end Superb Gem. The reverse exhibits azure throughout, and the CAC approval attests to the visual appeal of this lustrous, near-Condition Census example. Population: 36 in 67 (24 in 67+), 5 finer. CAC: 15 in 67, 2 finer (5/16).
Ex: Eliasberg Collection (Bowers & Merena, 5/1996), lot 1006; purchased by Eugene Gardner from Joseph O'Connor (12/2003); Eugene H. Gardner Collection, Part IV (Heritage, 10/2015), lot 98162.(Registry values: N2998)
