Description

1859 Half Dime, MS68
One of Six Finest

1859 H10C MS68 NGC. The 1859, coming from a mintage of 340,000 circulation strikes, is a relatively common date in the Seated Liberty half dime series, though the better levels of Mint State are scarce to rare. The present MS68 example stands out as one of the six finest certified by NGC and PCGS. Soft cobalt-blue patina hugs the margins of both sides, yielding to gold-orange, gray, and lavender in the centers, and a well directed strike imparts sharp definition to the design features. Close inspection reveals impeccably preserved surfaces, as expected for this lofty grade. This is a tremendous opportunity for the Seated half dime specialist. Census: 4 in 68, 0 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N1)
