Description
Gem 1860 Transitional Half Dime, Judd-267
1860 H10C Transitional MS65 NGC. Judd-267. Pollock (1994) estimates that 100 examples of this curious issue were produced, most likely for distribution to collectors in an attempt to obtain (trade) pieces for the U.S. Mint Collection. The 'hollow stars' type of 1859 is paired with the cereal wreath reverse of 1860, and the statutory inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA does not appear on the coin. This splendidly preserved Gem displays the diagnostic obverse die scratch from the left base of Liberty's rock to the rim. Well struck except for the right side stars. Waves of navy-blue and rose-mauve patina ensure the originality. Population: 9 in 65, 8 finer (2/04). (#4373)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2346, PCGS# 4373, Greysheet# 3787)
Weight: 1.24 grams
Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
