Description

1860 Judd-267 Half Dime, MS66+
The 'Coin Without A Country'

1860 H10C Transitional Silver, Reeded Edge, Judd-267, Pollock-315, R.4, MS66+ PCGS. Technically a numismatic delicacy, this "transitional" pattern is collected as a treasured part of the regular Seated half dime series (albeit a rare one, with just 100 pieces as the estimated mintage). The obverse repeats the hollow stars seen on the Paquet subtype of 1859. The normal cereal wreath reverse of the 1860-1873 regular issues occupies the reverse, leaving no room for UNITED STATES OF AMERICA anywhere on the coin. This attractively toned example flashes ocean-blue and reddish-gold colors over minimally marked surfaces. Better struck than most examples, with occasional die striations, weakness at a few star centers and Liberty's pole hand, and blending at the reverse bow knot. Population: 9 in 66 (1 in 66+), 9 finer (6/15).
