Description

1862 Half Dime, MS67
High-End Type Coin

1862 H10C MS67 PCGS. Heavily hoarded following suspension of specie payments by banks and the Treasury, 1862 half dimes survive in quantity and are usually available in pleasing Mint State condition. In Superb Gem grades, however, the date is nevertheless elusive.

The present piece displays virtually perfect surfaces with frosty, vibrant mint luster. Largely untoned, with light tinges of amber-gold seen around the peripheries. The strike is sharp overall, with notable definition on the lower shield and the upper-left portion of the wreath, areas that are typically weak on this issue. An essentially perfect type representative. Population: 39 in 67 (3 in 67+), 3 finer (3/14).(Registry values: N2998)
