Description

Scarce 1864 Half Dime, MS66

1864 H10C MS66 NGC. The 48,000-piece business strike mintage of the 1864 half dime is highly suspect. Al Blythe (1992) cites research putting the mintage at a much lower figure. In any event, inspection of NGC/PCGS population reports indicates that this issue is very scarce in all grades. The lustrous silver-gray surfaces of this Premium Gem representative display hints of light peripheral gold-tan. Well struck except for the usual weakness on the upper left wreath elements. Clash marks are visible on the obverse. Census: 4 in 66, 4 finer (9/09).(Registry values: N2998)
