Description

1865 Half Dime
Gleaming Premium Gem

1865 H10C MS66 PCGS. V-1, High R.5. One of several low-mintage, mid-1860s issues from the Philadelphia Mint, with just 13,000 business strikes produced. Valentine mentioned only proofs of this date from a single die pair, but circulation strikes exist as well. This is the rarest issue of the Civil War dates. The base of the 1 is obviously recut at the lower right serif. Brilliant and thickly frosted motifs are boldly struck, and this Premium Gem is immaculate, with large areas of prooflike flash across the fields. Luster swirls over the coin, revealing faint golden-gray accents that confirm its unquestioned originality and careful preservation. Population: 6 in 66, 2 finer (6/14).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 234G, PCGS# 4386, Greysheet# 3793)

Weight: 1.24 grams
