    1872 Half Dime, Vibrant MS67

    1872 H10C MS67 NGC. CAC. V-4. Deep blue-green toning with vibrant underlying luster. Both sides show strong clash marks though detail is softer elsewhere, most notably at the upper left reverse.

    Variety: V-4. Low open date, right end of ribbon just touches. The 1 in the date is recut, unmentioned in Valentine.

    Population Data (3/15): NGC recognizes four MS67 coins and PCGS one, with none finer at either service. CAC has stickered two MS67 pieces.

    Heritage Commentary: The 1872 issue was struck in the prodigious amount of 2.9 million-plus pieces, the largest mintage since 1861.

    Consignor Commentary: While it's possible this coin might have some competition for the finest known for the date, I am sure it is the prettiest. The dominating feature of the coin is its eye appeal due to its beautiful toning and strong luster.
