Description

Fully Struck 1839 No Drapery Half, MS63

1839 50C No Drapery MS63 PCGS. CAC. The Seated Liberty coinage was very much a phased introduction, with the half dimes and dimes appearing first in 1837, the quarters in 1838, the half dollars in 1839, and the full complement of minor coinage reached with the Seated dollars in 1840. That approach makes the 1839 No Drapery and With Drapery halves one-year subtypes, as well as popular type and date issues. This Select Mint State piece is fully struck, with bright fields, great luster, and soft mint frost on both sides. A few small field marks on the reverse account for the grade, the most obvious above the eagle's right (facing) wing. A couple of bold die cracks appear on the reverse. A super type coin or prize for the series specialist.(Registry values: N4719)
