Description

No Drapery 1839 Half--A Much Needed Type Coin

1839 50C No Drapery AU50 ANACS. WB-101. Lacking the three folds of drapery from Liberty's elbow, No Drapery halves were allegedly struck in August 1839, and are a popular one-year type coin This piece is a bit softly struck, as usual, (this is the second strongest strike of the three die marriages) and the centers have a warm golden patina with deep blue peripheral color. Semi-prooflike, and very rare as such on this date.
From the Tommy Dorathy Collection of Seated Halves.
