Description

1840 Reverse of 1839 MS 63 PCGS. This variety has the small letters as seen on the 1839 issue, as opposed to the medium letters and larger eagle as seen on the 1838 Reeded Edge half dollar. The small letters reverse is the more obtainable of the two 1840 issues in mint state, but can still be accurately described as scarce. This is a select, mostly brilliant (except for a spot or two about the eagle's beak) example that exhibits faint die striations and a modest prooflike sheen in the fields.
