Description

1841 Seated Half, Elusive MS64 Example
Normal Date

1841 50C MS64 PCGS. WB-101. Normal Date. The smallish mintage of 310,000 pieces today translates into survivors being scarce even in lower grades, and Mint State pieces are quite rare, rated Low R.7 by Wiley and Bugert. This silver-gray piece has noticeably reflective fields and shows a few scattered, minor marks that keep it from the Gem level. Typical strike weakness, not overt, appears on Liberty's head and upper torso. The reverse shows a die bulge with a slight planchet depression in the middle in the area of the two rightmost vertical shield lines. No recutting appears on the date. Population: 5 in 64, 1 finer (4/14).(Registry values: N2998)
