Description
Rare Almost Uncirculated 1842-O Half With the Reverse of 1839
1842-O 50C Reverse of 1839 AU50 PCGS. The Small Date, Small Letters 1842-O Half is scarce with Wiley-Bugert rating it a high R.4 in all grades. This reverse design has been identified on all 1839 Seated Liberty, 1840 (P), 1840-O, 1841, and 1841-O Half Dollars, as well as on some 1842-O examples. This AU50 is one of the finest examples known of this Seated Half rarity. The surfaces show uniform, deep gray patina over each side. The obverse striking details are strong throughout but the reverse is weak on the eagle's left (facing) leg. Abrasion-free.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24GV, PCGS# 6238, GSID# 6314)
