Description

1847-O Half Dollar, Toned MS65
WB-21, Doubled Die Obverse

1847-O 50C MS65 NGC. WB-21. Doubled Die Obverse. As described in the Wiley-Bugert reference, the die doubling shows on Liberty's left (facing) fingers, the left edge of the rock, the left end of the scroll where it circles behind the shield, and the first two sets of shield lines. The reverse has a large O mintmark, and this is the only use of this reverse die. Beside the interesting doubled die obverse, this Gem 1847-O half is among the few finest in existence. NGC has certified five submissions in this grade with two finer (10/12). Beautiful pinkish-gold and jade colors permeate both sides, with generous luster and a sharp strike.(Registry values: N4719)
