Rare Gem Uncirculated 1849-O Half Dollar
1849-O MS 65 NGC. A blatantly original and impressive gem specimen that is toned over both sides in golden-violet, apple-green, and turquoise hues, with lighter streaks of silver-gray on the obverse. The striking details are not quite full, but show no particular areas of deficiency as is often seen on this heavily produced New Orleans issue. In this era of high silver prices, few half dollars were spared from circulation, and today uncirculated pieces of any grade are seldom available to collectors. Population: 2 in 65, none finer (10/98).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24HF, PCGS# 6263, GSID# 6326)
