Description

1852 50C MS62 NGC. Only 77,130 pieces were produced in this year with a great many of these melted in 1853 after the 7% weight reduction went into effect for all subsidiary silver coins. As a result, examples are scarce in all grades with Mint State pieces rating an R.5 according Wiley and Bugert. The satiny surfaces on this piece are minimally abraded and display a moderate overlay of golden-tan and gray toning that deepens at the borders. A sharply struck piece also.
