Description

1852-O AU 50 NGC. Three branch mint proofs are known to have been struck from the same dies as this coin. The die features an unsupported foot of Liberty and attenuated vertical lines on the reverse shield, both of which are on this piece. The fields are also semi-prooflike but fuzzy from light circulation. Fully struck throughout, with light, scattered toning around the margins. A couple of long scratches are noted on the reverse above the eagle's left (facing) wing. Aside from being struck from the same dies as the proofs, the '52-O is a very scarce O-mint half that is especially desirable in AU condition.
